A wheat field on Wenlock Barn
Funded by Shoreditch Trust and Thomas Fairchild School

Back in 2009 working with Thomas Fairchild School and people from across the Estate we initiated a piece of land at the base of one of the blocks into a space for cultivation by developing a performance based on an ancient Egyptian sowing ritual. The community spent the day in full song, dance and feast. We then made a plough, ploughed the land with helpings of ploughmans sandwiches and planted in the furrows seeds of organic wheat. As the crop cycle unfolded the wheat was cared for by both children and adults and eventually harvested using a unique set of handmade harvesting tools.
