THE COLLECTIVE TONGUE, Berlin 2014

Performance and workshop

"Myths are public dreams, dreams are private myths" – Joseph Campbell

Exploring the idea that our surroundings, both internal and external are sculpted through oral (the mouth) and aural (the ear) muscles.
This work uses the voice as material, using our voice to produce a series of vocal expressions based on a collection of sounds and frequencies. From these sounds we produced several objects in order to initiate an acoustic landscape.

We have used this work to bring people together in the intimacy of sound prompting a dream space of listening that we call ‘public dreaming”.

Through this public dreaming we have collected the shared imaginaries using them to write a story “The Collective Tongue”.
The research is continuously formed through workshops, exhibitions and events and The Collective Tongue is performed as an on-going piece of storytelling.
